Terrorizer interview with Truth Be Known

Check out Terrorizer mag short interview with Truth Be Known!

Keep your eyes on our Band Of The Day blogs as we continue to pick one of the bands from our unsigned CD, 'Fresh Flesh 2011' before asking you, yes you, to vote for the best! Today it's the turn of Singapore's Truth Be Known.

Metal is genuinely worldwide now. Along with hiphop, heavy metal - especially the more extreme forms - is the one genre that has spread to practically every country in the world. While true kvlt metallers have always known about the good shit coming out of South America, it's perhaps only recently that we're becoming more aware of bands from south-east Asia, whether that's Taiwan's 'symphonic black metal' types Chthonic or furious grindcore merchants Wormrot from Singapore. So ladies and gents, doff your caps to Wormrot's compatriots, the grind-influenced, and very nasty (in the good way) Truth Be Known. Vocalist Subash represents.

How would you describe your sound? What are your influences?
"Our sound is nothing more than a tribute of sorts, a culmination of all the simple things we love about metal, be it old school death metal, thrash metal or grindcore or any other sub-genre you wanna throw in. In fact the name of the band itself is from a Napalm Death song. We joke and call it 'funcore' cause we get a big kick out of it, and the people we have played to always walk away feeling the same way."

Why should a Terrorizer reader who's not heard you before check you out?
"We have a simple rule, we play hard, we play fast, we get you going. And in the end, what more would you want? Pure and simple. "

What is the metal scene like where you're based? What about the opportunities for playing live? Probably the most famous Singaporean metal bands over here in the UK are Wormrot and Impiety. Are there any other great bands we should know about?
"The scene is always growing taking into account we're a small country. We feel it can only go up from here. There are a lot more better promoters now, and a lot more big foreign metal bands making their way here. There are always opportunities to play live in south-east Asia, but we believe our bands when given the chance would love to spread their music to other parts of the world. It's our belief that the world won't be disappointed at all!
The scene, while small, has a lot of bands that do us proud. Wormrot of course in recent years, but prior to that we had genre breaking bands like Rudra with their 'Vedic metal', the always hellish and mighty Impiety, both of whom have toured various parts of the world as well...some other acts include Absence of The Sacred, Vrykolakas, Cardiac Necropsy, Nafrat, Meltgsnow [sic], The Corruptor...just to name a few playing a variety of sub-genres."

Terrorizer features bands from Sweden, the USA, Russia, Taiwan, Singapore and plenty of other countries besides - metal is genuinely worldwide. Why is metal, particularly more extreme metal, so popular all over the world?
"Cause metal speaks to us with an energy and focus unlike any other genre out there. Extreme metal, as a musical form as well as lyrically, challenges you to think. As a musical genre it gives you freedom, a platform to speak your mind on just about anything. No other genre music is as free and truly democratic as metal and that's what's great about it."
